Vyšehrad of Charles IV
The 6th annual historical commemorative event organized by the National Cultural Monument Vyšehrad in cooperation with leading Czech military history clubs and associations.
This year’s theme marks the 670th anniversary of the coronation of Charles IV as Holy Roman Emperor (April 5, 1355). Charles IV became the first Czech ruler to attain the rank of Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
During his imperial coronation journey, he brought back from Pisa a fragment of a stone altar, which was believed to have been used by Saint Peter to celebrate his first mass on the Apennine Peninsula. He donated this relic to the Vyšehrad Basilica, thereby reaffirming the symbolic bond between Vyšehrad and Rome—a connection originally established by the first Czech king, Vratislav, in 1070 with the founding of the Vyšehrad Chapter and the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
